The Irish Austrian Society was set up to further develop the historic ties of friendship and understanding between the peoples of Ireland and Austria
These aims are achieved by a most extensive and varied cultural and social programme:
+ Convivial social gatherings, traditional Austrian evenings, Österreicher Stammtisch, Heurigen Afternoons, Maibaum - Frühlingsfest, Summer BBQ and many more
+ Lectures on cultural and historical subjects by distinguished Irish and Austrian musicians, historians, politicians and so forth
+ A contribution to Ireland's education system by organising an annual German Language Essay Competition for school children with free travel and sojourn in well known Austrian schools for the winners. This programme is being extended to encompass the training of Irish German language teachers
+ Assistance to Austrian groups visiting Ireland with there social and cultural programmes and we also organize from time to time tours to Austria with special interest, like the Austrian Wine-Regions, Hill Walking, Skiing, City Breaks, Spa & Wellbeing, Eco-friendly, Culinary, Art and Nature
+ Assistance, where possible, to the Austrian Trade Office in Dublin and the Irish Trade Office in Vienna
The origins of the Society go back to the early nineteen forties and since then the Society has made a considerable contribution to the social and cultural life of this country. It is also very pleased to be once more associated with the Austrian Government's assistance to the Glencree Centre for Reconciliation.
