Botanic Gardens Day Out

posted Nov 10, 2018, 7:44 AM by Reinhard Schoeller   [ updated Nov 10, 2018, 7:44 AM ]

Early September our young families and children met for a day out at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin. On a beautiful warm and sunny day, we got a guided tour through the gardens, learning about it's general history as well as specific items such as the Viking house and garden, Rag trees, specific tree species and much more. One particular interesting piece of information we picked up relates to Austrian-British Philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951). A plaque in one of the glass houses informs us that he "Stayed in Dublin in the winter 1948-1949 and liked to sit and write at these steps".
