Day Out in Kells

On Saturday 22 September, Members of the Society made their way to County Meath, to meet up with  members of the Kells Arts Club for a day out in Kells. The meetup started early afternoon at the Headfort Arms Hotel for lunch. From here we made our way to these places:

Kells Heritage Centre (Old Court House)
Market Cross
St. Columba's Church
St. Colmcille's House
Spire of Lloyd

Final destination of the day was Martry Mill, a working watermill located between Kells and Navan. There the Arts Club had prepared Tea, Sandwiches and Cakes. The owner of the mill, James Tallon, gave us an insight into the fascinating history of the mill, which dates back to 1641. If you're interested, you can read about it on www.martrymill.ie

The Irish Austrian Society had a most wonderful day in Kells and sincerely like to thank Eileen Morgan Brown and the Kells Arts Club for organizing the day and giving us a walking tour of the History of Kells.
