On 2 October, Declan Downey, University Lecturer at University College Dublin, held a lecture for the Society on the subject of World War I and looked at some of it's facets, including Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie, the political and international context of the time and the various parties. As always, Declan very much understands to capture his audience with his knowledge and insight. We then had a good discussion afterwards with remarks, opinions and insights from other member of the Society. On behalf of it's members, the Committee wish to express their thanks to Declan for giving this talk.
